Käringön – beach houses and a watchtower
The island Käringön belongs to the municipality Orust and is approached several times a day by Tuvesvik by ferry. The small island is an Eldorado for sailors and well visited in summer. The island is also known for the unique wooden beach houses whose history goes back to the 16th century.
Today only about 130 inhabitants live on Käringön, but in summer the number of people on the island is increasing.
According to legend, the name Käringön comes from an old woman whose monument stands in the harbor.
